A water-cooled chiller rejects condenser heat through water connected to an external cooling tower, helping the refrigerant condense back into liquid form.

Air-cooled chillers reject heat directly to ambient air, eliminating the need for a separate cooling tower and making installation and maintenance comparatively straightforward.

A chiller removes heat from a circulating liquid so the cooled fluid can be used to control the temperature of machinery, process water or another process stream.

Chillers are used wherever machinery or processes require controlled cooling, including manufacturing and process environments as well as heat-treatment and coating applications.

The existing guidance on the site identifies counterflow-type cooling towers as the more efficient arrangement when compared with crossflow operation.
